A sample can fail after it fails QC. This determined that there was not enough usable DNA on the swab provided and we would not have been able to obtain a full genetic profile had we processed the swab further.
In the event of a sample failing analysis, you will be notified and a free of charge replacement test kit will be sent for the collection process to be repeated.
When submitting a replacement sample, we recommend the following tips to ensure the highest chance of success:
- Do not eat, drink, smoke, chew gum, brush your teeth, or use mouthwash for at least an hour prior to providing your sample.
- Swab your cheek for the full recommended 1 minute.
It is well known that there is considerable inter-individual variation between the yield of DNA from buccal swabs. Some individuals yield a lot of DNA whereas others yield very little. It is possible that you yielded little DNA or that you are simply not swabbing yourself for long enough.
